textile as dress
textile as lamp

MEMORY PIECE began with the documentation of thoughts and memories over the course of the concluding months of a relationship. The slow, meditative work allowed not only the time to work through pain, anger and sorrow, but the satisfaction of using such emotions productively, when so often they can take on a power that is self-destructive.

The piece took final form in a large quilt-work of inscribed fabrics, functioning both as a lamp (to illustrate the illuminating, warm comfort which memories can provide), and as a dress (which, through its constricting drawstrings, illustrates the potentially debilitating, overwhelming quality of memories). There is no chronology to the piece; as memories mingle and combine, the process created many visual layers.
